Tai Chi
 Tuesday 10 to 11 am

The Practice of Tai Chi, the Chinese martial art, has been shown to reduce the risk of falls in the elderly significantly. Tai Chi Ch'uan - loosley translats as Chinese shoadow boxing and consists of smooth flowing movements that improve balance, muscle control and cocentration. A study in the journal of the American Geriatrics Society. looked at 200 people aged 70 and over who took part in Tai Chi training for 15 weeks and compared tem with a similar group who did not practice. They found that the risk of falling was reduced by 47.5% in the Tai Chi participants.

Researcers attribute this result to the fact that Tai Chi instruction helps to inprove the confidence of practitioners because they no longer worried about falling over.Another study conducted at La Trobe University in Australia has found that Tai Chi is also an effective method of stress reduction.

I learned Tai Chi at the University in Guilin and have been teaching since 2003. My first classes were held at Little Common Community Centre. I also attend a practice class held at the Royal British Legion Club Little Common. Presently I am teaching on a thursday morning at Centre Stage in London Road and from Tuesday 15th January 2008 at Bexhill Amature Athletic Club from 10 to 11 am. I look forward to seeing you there.
